HubSpot predictive lead scoring alternatives: what to use when you need reasons and control

HubSpot's predictive score is Enterprise only and does not show its reasons. Here is what else HubSpot offers, and the alternatives that are still on the market.

Greg Toler, Founder 11 min read HubSpot AI scoring Lead scoring

HubSpot predictive lead scoring is a pair of contact properties, Likelihood to close and Contact priority, available on Marketing Hub Enterprise and Sales Hub Enterprise. HubSpot’s model sets them for you, and you cannot see or change how. Teams look for alternatives for three reasons: they are not on Enterprise, they want to see why a contact scored what it did, or they want to control the model themselves.

This guide covers what HubSpot offers today, then the alternatives, grouped by what you need. Facts come from each vendor’s own pages, linked where they appear, and were checked in October 2026. This market has changed a lot in two years: several well-known tools have been acquired or shut down, so the list is shorter than most roundups suggest. We make one of the tools here, and we have included where it is not the right choice.

What HubSpot offers today

HubSpot has four separate things that people call predictive scoring.

FeatureWhat it doesPlanCan you see the reasons?
Likelihood to close and Contact priorityA probability that a contact closes as a customer within 90 days, and a ranking of contacts into tiersMarketing Hub Enterprise, Sales Hub EnterpriseNo. HubSpot says it is not possible to know how each input contributes
Lead scoring toolFit, engagement, and combined scores from points rules you setMarketing Hub and Sales Hub, Professional and EnterpriseYes. The rules are yours
Create score with AIAI drafts the criteria and points for a contact score from your past conversions. You can edit the resultMarketing Hub EnterpriseYes. The output is a rules model
Deal scoresA 0 to 100 prediction of winning an open deal, with the top five factorsSales Hub or Smart CRM, Professional and EnterprisePartly. Top five factors, marked positive or negative

A few details matter when you compare:

  • The AI builder needs data. HubSpot asks for a sample of at least 50 contacts, 25 that converted and 25 that did not. It scores contacts only.
  • The older score properties are gone. According to a HubSpot Community migration notice, the legacy score properties stopped updating on August 31, 2025, and scoring now lives in the lead scoring tool.
  • Buyer intent is a separate feature. Buyer intent matches anonymous web visitors to companies and is paid for with HubSpot Credits. It is a signal you can score on, not a score.

Why teams look for an alternative

ReasonWhat is behind it
PlanLikelihood to close and the AI builder need Enterprise
No reasonsReps do not act on a percentage they cannot check
No controlYou cannot tell the model that a segment matters more this quarter
Thin historyA model trained on few conversions is unreliable
Contacts onlyThe predictive properties sit on contacts, while most B2B deals are won at the account
One modelDifferent products and motions need their own models

The alternatives, by what you need

1. You want to stay in HubSpot: the rules-based lead scoring tool

The lead scoring tool on Professional and Enterprise builds fit, engagement, and combined scores for contacts and companies from rules you write. It is the first alternative to try, because it costs nothing extra and the logic is yours. Its limits are the reason teams outgrow it: bands are fixed labels, decay comes in set options, and the number of models depends on your plan.

Best for: one product, one motion, and a team that will maintain the rules.

2. You want reasons and control: transparent scoring

BoostIdeal. Built for HubSpot. You build the model and set the weights, with AI helping you analyze your data and get to a first draft. Scores, shown out of 10, write back to HubSpot with the reasons behind them, so reps, workflows, and agents work from the same logic. It scores any record, including leads, contacts, accounts, and custom objects, can score one record using the data on another, and runs several models side by side. Scores recalculate hourly by default, and in near real time with webhook sync.

Watch for: it is not a predictive model. A person sets the weights, so someone on your team has to own it. It does not sell third-party intent data, and it works with HubSpot, or a CSV you upload.

Best for: teams whose reps do not trust the score, or that need several models.

3. You want a trained predictive model

This group has thinned out.

  • MadKudu. A predictive scoring pioneer. HG Insights acquired MadKudu in August 2025. A HubSpot marketplace listing is still live, but confirm with HG Insights what is sold as a standalone scoring product today.
  • Breadcrumbs. Known for combining a fit grade with an activity grade. MadKudu announced it was acquiring Breadcrumbs in October 2024, with customers moving to the MadKudu platform. Its HubSpot listing remains, so check whether it is still sold on its own before you plan around it.
  • Forwrd.ai and Lead Ratings. Two smaller tools in the HubSpot marketplace that market machine-learned scoring for HubSpot. Forwrd.ai says it builds models automatically and explains scores. Lead Ratings offers a free starter plan.

Watch for: any trained model needs enough clean conversion history. Ask how many records and conversions it needs, and how much of the reasoning a rep can read.

Best for: high lead volume, a long clean history, and someone to run the model.

4. You sell to accounts at enterprise scale: ABM and intent platforms

  • 6sense. Account-level predictive models, buying stages, and intent data, with a HubSpot app.
  • Demandbase. An account-based platform with account intelligence, intent, and predictive scoring, with a HubSpot app.

Watch for: platform pricing, longer projects, and how much of the vendor’s data shows up on the HubSpot record where reps work. Intent data usually names the company, not the person.

Best for: large account-based teams with budget and a need for third-party intent.

5. You want signals with a score attached

  • Apollo. Its scoring engine rates people and companies against your ideal customer profile, with AI scores on paid plans, custom weighted scores, and a breakdown of each score. Apollo acquired Pocus in March 2026.
  • Common Room. Signal-based scoring for people and accounts across fit and behavior, with reasons you can see by hovering over a score. Zoom agreed to acquire Common Room in July 2026.

Watch for: the score often lives in the vendor’s product first. Ask which properties write back to HubSpot.

Best for: teams that already prospect in these tools.

6. You want to build it yourself

  • Clay. An enrichment and workflow tool with a HubSpot integration. You build a score with formulas or AI columns and write it to a HubSpot property.
  • A spreadsheet. Export, score, and import. It is the cheapest way to prove a model before you buy anything.

Watch for: you own the maintenance. A score built by one person in a workflow tool is hard for anyone else to change.

Best for: operations teams with time, and models that are still changing.

Tools that are no longer options

Older lists still recommend tools that have moved on. As of October 2026:

ToolWhat happened
ClearbitAcquired by HubSpot and folded into its data and intent features. Its free tools were retired in 2025
WarmlyAnnounced in June 2026 that it had agreed to be acquired by HubSpot
PocusAcquired by Apollo in March 2026
KoalaReported to have shut down in 2025 after part of its team joined Cursor

Six questions to ask any vendor

  1. Open one of our records. Which factors produced this score, and how much did each count?
  2. Can a rep see those reasons inside HubSpot?
  3. Can we change the model ourselves, today?
  4. How many records and conversions do you need before the model is reliable for us?
  5. Which properties write back to HubSpot, and how often do they update?
  6. Is this product sold and supported on its own, and who owns it now?

Frequently asked questions

What is HubSpot predictive lead scoring?

It is two contact properties set by HubSpot’s model: Likelihood to close, a probability that a contact becomes a customer within 90 days, and Contact priority, a ranking into tiers. Both need Marketing Hub Enterprise or Sales Hub Enterprise.

Can you see why HubSpot gave a contact its predictive score?

No. HubSpot’s documentation says it is not possible to know how each input contributes to the score. The rules-based lead scoring tool and deal scores show more of their reasoning.

Is there predictive lead scoring on HubSpot Professional?

Not the predictive properties. Professional includes the rules-based lead scoring tool, where you set the points. The AI score builder needs Marketing Hub Enterprise.

What is the best alternative to HubSpot predictive lead scoring?

It depends on what is missing. For readable reasons and control, a transparent scoring tool. For third-party intent at enterprise scale, an account-based platform. For a simple motion, HubSpot’s own rules-based tool is often enough.

Is MadKudu still available for HubSpot?

HG Insights acquired MadKudu in August 2025. A HubSpot marketplace listing is still live, but confirm with HG Insights what is sold as a standalone scoring product today.

Do I need predictive scoring at all?

Not always. A model you set by hand and test against your own wins is often more reliable when history is thin, and it is easier to explain to the people who have to act on it.

The takeaway

HubSpot’s predictive properties give you a number without the reasons, and only on Enterprise. The alternatives fall into a few groups: HubSpot’s own rules, transparent scoring you control, trained predictive tools, account-based platforms, and building it yourself. Several familiar names have been acquired or closed, so check that a tool is still sold on its own. Then pick by who should build the model and who needs to see the reasons.
